Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this contractual position is to provide full performance level of work in beauty care for patients in a State hospital, in the Maryland Department of Health.
Employees in this classification give permanents, haircuts, shampoos, and practice all other phases of beauty culture as an operator.
Employees in this classification are responsible for the cleanliness and safekeeping of beauty shop tools and equipment as set forth in the laws and regulations for the practice of cosmetology as controlled by the State Board of Cosmetologists.

03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility.
An individual may request an accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.
POSITION DUTIES Participates in the operation of an institutional beauty shop; Calls on patients in a ward to shampoo hair, etc; Gives permanents, shampoos, haircuts, scalp treatments to patients; Keeps combs, scissors, brushes, razors and other equipment sterile and in good working order; Must wear standard uniform; Keeps area clean and in good working order; Requisitions beauty shop supplies; May instruct patients in beautician techniques and personal hygiene; Performs other related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Determined by the licensing requirements set by the Maryland State Board of Cosmetologists, Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS 1.
Applicants must possess a current Operator's license as issued by the Maryland State Board of Cosmetologists.
Applicants must present evidence of current certification with the application.

Certification by the above board will be required before an application may be given permanent position.
However, applicants who are eligible for certification will be admitted to the State examination if evidence of eligibility is presented with the application.

Applicants must maintain licensure with the Maryland State Board of Cosmetologists.
Employees in this classification who do not currently possess the necessary Operator's license will be subject to removal from the position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the individual to be examined by a physician.
After an offer of employment is extended, applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.
SELECTION PROCESS Applicants who meet the minimum (and selective) qualifications will be included in further evaluation.

BENEFITS Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.
As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled.
The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.
You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period.
This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
