The *IT Director* position involves the administration of the Information Technology staff and County computer related technologies.
Supervise the work of the IT staff and also maintain the computer network for the entire County.
Evaluate software and hardware proposals to assess project feasibility and requirements for all County departments.
Recommend and review computer and software technologies for purchase.
Responsible for network security and policies related to the LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network).
The IT Director is directly responsible to the Somerset County Board of Commissioners.
*EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE*:
_Any combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required skill and knowledge is qualifying.
Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:_
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or any other related field;
Three (3) years’ professional experience supervising a computer operation.
*EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:*
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the ability to thoroughly grasp the principles and practices of computer administration, including supervising computer staff, maintaining department budgets, managing network security, maintaining LAN and Wan infrastructure, communicating and working with all county departments as well as state agencies for the purpose of maintain an efficient WAN.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to make technological decisions for recommendations, purchasing, and implementing new computer related hardware and software.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
An employee in this classification is responsible for performing assignments that are technical in nature and are carried out in accordance with administrative and personnel practices, procedures and precedents, specific goals and objectives and any applicable legal standards or regulations.
Specific job duties include the following:
· Assign and review the work of system administrators, analysts, programmers and other computer related staff.
· Maintain budget and expenditures within the IT Department.
· Make recommendations on computer hardware and software technologies to Commissioners and Department heads.
· Evaluate hardware and software proposals to assess project feasibility and requirements.
· Supervise and maintain the LAN and WAN security and infrastructure within the County.
· Knowledge of a broad range of multi-user computer systems, applications, and equipment.
· Knowledge of Virtual environments and related software’s such as VmWare.
· Maintain and administer the hardware, software, applications, and security as it relates to the computer networks and computer environments with the County.
· Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel and users for the purpose of solving a system problem, application issues, proposals, project feasibility, and general computer related requirements.
· Knowledgeable in the areas of networking, computer systems, software applications, protocols, guidelines and regulations as it relates to County government.
· Knowledge in the area of Cyber Security, Phishing, and Ransomware prevention along with the requirements to adhere to Cyber Insurance policies.
· Maintain card security and door security systems such as CCure and Continental.
· Maintain camera security systems within the County.
· Supervise and maintain data backups and disaster recovery operations.
· Manage cell phone accounts and equipment for all departments.
· Monitor the performance of the computer systems and networks to achieve optimal performance.
· Coordinate the exchange of computer information to and from the County applications to other agencies.
· Verify that computer usage falls within Acceptable Use Policies, Cyber Security Policy and any other technological policies.
· Serve in an advisory capacity for computer and software related technologies to the Commissioners, Elected Officials, and Department Heads.
To complete any other computer/software related tasks that the Commissioners assign.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $68,000.
