Classification Professional Staff Position Term 12 months Basic Statement of Responsibilities The Assistant Dean facilitates multiple administrative functions within the Student & Legal Affairs unit which includes Residence Life, Student Life, and Student Support.
The Assistant Dean has singular responsibility for designated tasks as detailed below.
This position provides supervision to Student Life and Student Support functions when needed and is the immediate supervisor for Residence Life.
This position also functions as the deputy to the Dean of Student & Legal Affairs with a second-chair role.
The Assistant Dean leads the unit in student development with emphasis on fostering a quality living-learning environment for on-campus residents, engagement of all students, as well as individual and community responsibility.
This position covers the on-call responsibilities when needed for staff.
Qualifications Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills Master’s Degree in relevant field including but not limited to Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Legal Studies, Student Life, College Student Personnel.
Minimum 3 years’ professional experience in higher education.
Graduate level work experience will be considered.
Experience working in Student Affairs or related higher education field strongly preferred.
Experience in Residence Life preferred.
Experience in a community college setting preferred.
Knowledge of student development theory preferred.
Knowledge of common legal issues and mandates in higher education preferred.

Organizational Relationships This position reports directly and is responsible to the Dean of Student & Legal Affairs, who reports to the Senior Vice President of Instruction & Student Affairs.
Supervises all Residence Life staff of the Willowbrook Woods student apartment complex including Area Coordinator(s), On-Call Incident Manager, and Resident Assistants.
Provides supervision to Student Life and Student Support staff when the Dean of Student & Legal Affairs is not available.
This position works closely with various stakeholders on and off campus including but not limited to Campus Safety/Special Police, Physical Plant, Business Office, Academic Access & Disability Resources, student groups, numerous departments at the college and various third party vendors and other stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions 1.
Student Development: Serves as a member of the Student Affairs team and assist with the management of student issues and crisis management.
Assists staff with and develops resolution to multiple student issues and concerns, including with student families, faculty and other staff as appropriate and needed.
Collaborates with faculty, staff and others to provide support to students in a timely manner.
Coordinates student wellbeing checks with College Officials and/or local authorities as needed.
Responds to and manages reports of student illnesses pursuant to the Infectious Disease-Condition Policy as assigned.

Administration: Serves as deputy to the Dean of Student & Legal Affairs including application of institutional policy, education/training for students and employees, and trouble-shooting complex issues.
Supports the development of unit goals and objectives, unit planning, and assessment to support the mission and goals of the College.
Assists with the development and maintenance of unit data dashboards.
• Compiles and submits the Annual Diversity Plan and Report.
Compiles and submits other state mandated reports.
Prepares additional written reports as assigned.
Responsible for the supervision and/or development, implementation, and tracking of student learning outcomes for identified Student Affairs functions.

Residence Life: Oversees policies, programs, supports, and services for students which promote student development and positive communal living.
Oversees applications, renewals, contracts, and contract compliance.
Assigns and supervises relevant and timely updates to publications, documents, and web page.
Plans and supervises openings, closings, and breaks.
Manages professional and student staff recruitment, selection, and training.
Develops and manages the Residence Life budget; provides input for the development of the Willowbrook Woods budget.
Creates and applies the Residence Life annual budget.
Provides recommendations and feedback to the Willowbrook Woods budget.
Manages the Willowbrook Woods animal policy.
• Responds to Security Deposit disputes.
Responds to Willowbrook Woods resident issues as needed, including after normal business hours; provides coverage for on-call staff as needed.
Manages the Willowbrook Woods No Trespassing List.
Coordinates Willowbrook Woods safety measures with Campus Safety/Special Police.

Student Conduct: Serves as Code of Student Conduct Hearing Officer as assigned.
Serves as a Title IX Team Member.
Conducts investigations regarding other student-involved matters or assists with such investigations as directed.
Leads special projects in Student Affairs including but not limited to initiatives assigned by the Senior Vice President of Instruction and Student Affairs.
Develops and maintains collaborative relationship with other College officials, units, and departments.
Serves on College committees and task forces as assigned.

Working Conditions Typical indoor office exposure with occasional outdoor exposure, regular evening and weekend hours, and occasional driving (van).
Travel may be required to other campuses, educational sites, off campus meetings, and training workshops and seminars.
Physical Effort Required Most of the job is sedentary.
Occasional periods of light physical work and lifting may be required.
Must be able to lift approximately 15 lbs.
Must be able to climb stairs to third floor apartments.
Must have the ability to effectively interact and communicate in person, by phone, and by email during business hours, nights, and weekends.
Must have the ability to report to campus within 15 minutes at any time at night and on weekends when covering on-call shifts.
Due to the requirements to respond to and manage emergencies, the Assistant Dean must be able to act immediately and independently.
Other physical requirements include: Oral and written communication, the ability to receive, understand and communicate verbal and written instruction and communicate in the English language.
