Essential Functions:
This position performs clerical and cashier duties to include processing payments at the cash register, assisting customers at the counter, processing new civil and DV cases, scheduling cases, and processing all pleadings filed.
Process, schedule, and enter data for civil, landlord/tenant, domestic violence, peace orders, and emergency evaluations.
Prepare transmittals for Sheriff?s Department.
Perform cashier duties which include operating the register, validating, and collecting all monies, fines, fees, and costs assessed and collected by the court.
Prepare all necessary deposit slips and paperwork for Dunbar; call in deposits.
Greet, assist, and inform general public of court procedure.
Explain and distribute civil, landlord/tenant, domestic violence, peace order, emergency evaluation, and ERPO forms, and other forms used in the clerk?s office.
Answer the telephone and direct calls to correct sections.
Answer civil, landlord/tenant, domestic violence, and peace order calls.
Perform assigned duties consistent with the employee?s classification in any section or location of their district.
Education:
High School diploma (or GED equivalent).
Experience:
One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.
Note:
A Bachelor?s Degree may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.
Knowledge of:
District Court operating procedures to be able to direct the public appropriately and accurately process monies and filings.
Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Alpha and numerical filing systems
Skill in:
Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
Typing on a personal computer.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Cashiering and/or experience handling large amounts of cash.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively with public in person and on the telephone.
Work as a team player.
Set priorities.
Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Operate a personal computer and utilize computer software.
Operate various types of office equipment.
Provide excellent customer service not only to the general public but to court personnel, attorneys, law enforcement, etc.
Work in pressure situations and be able to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
