*POSITION: Grades 5-8 Middle School Visual Arts Teacher (Full Time)* *SCHOOL YEAR: 2024/2025* *REPORTS TO: Head of Upper School* *MISSION STATEMENT* In an environment that is safe, challenging, nurturing, and disciplined, Valley School provides a balanced and strong program of study for a diverse group of children.

*JOB PURPOSE* Valley School’s Visual Arts curriculum is aligned with the National Art Education Association and Pennsylvania Art Education Association Standards and fosters cognitive development, critical thinking, and fine motor skills development.
Our program is anchored in teaching students how to combine the creative process with technical methods through hands-on studio work where creativity is balanced with skills development in drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and art history.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic individual who has demonstrated a passion for art learning and teaching that builds interest in, excitement for, and mastery of skills in the visual arts.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* • Teach five to six middle school art classes with at least four preparations each trimester.
• Design, develop, and deliver quality art lessons that align with the scope and sequence of the visual arts curriculum and encourage curiosity, exploration, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
• Assess student learning and art progression using a variety of modalities and provide timely and thoughtful feedback.
• Working with colleagues in preparing and exhibiting student artwork throughout the school year.
• Maintain an effective, safe, and well-organized studio art classroom.
• Demonstrate a growth mindset and commitment to professional growth as an art educator.
• Participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the school community in a manner that supports and promotes the Mission and Core Values of Valley School.
• Attend faculty meetings and fulfill other faculty obligations.
• Participate in the life of the school, including scheduled extra duties, school-related conferences, training, committee work, and where possible, attending after-hours events that reflect a commitment to the success of the school and the development of the whole child.
*EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE* • Teaching Certification in Art Education preferred • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree • 2+ years of teaching experience in a classroom setting • Exhibits effective written and oral communication skills • Passion for working and engaging with energetic Middle School students *SALARY/BENEFITS* Valley School of Ligonier is committed to attracting and retaining outstanding employees through a competitive total compensation package.
