Basic Statement of Responsibilities
As a Cosmetology Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and guidance to aspiring cosmetologists in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Your role will involve developing and implementing curriculum, fostering a positive learning environment, and preparing students for successful careers in the cosmetology industry.
Essential Functions
Expand and implement comprehensive cosmetology curriculum, including lesson plans, learning activities, and assessments.
Provide engaging instruction in various cosmetology techniques, including hair styling, cutting, coloring, skincare, and nail care.
Stay updated with current industry trends, techniques, and technologies, and incorporate them into the curriculum as appropriate.
Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation, creativity, and professional growth.
Demonstrate proper safety and sanitation practices in the cosmetology lab or classroom, and ensure students adhere to regulatory guidelines.
Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their skills and knowledge in cosmetology.
Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and industry professionals to enhance the cosmetology program and support student success.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievements, and communicate regularly with students and stakeholders.
Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education activities to enhance teaching skills and industry knowledge.
Serve as a mentor and role model for students, providing guidance and support for their academic and career goals.
Uphold professional and ethical standards in all interactions with students, staff, clients, and industry partners.
Utilize instructional technology and software effectively to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
Cultivate a professional network within the cosmetology industry to facilitate guest speakers, field trips, and industry partnerships for student enrichment.
Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills
Accredited senior cosmetology license.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing cosmetologist.
Teaching certification or relevant education in education or instructional design (preferred).
Prior experience in teaching or training individuals in cosmetology techniques and theory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Commitment to safety, diversity, and inclusion in the learning environment.
Proficiency in instructional technology and software.
Ability to adapt teaching methods and curriculum to meet diverse student needs.
Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education.
