Basic Statement of Responsibilities The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) is responsible for the program’s compliance with the fieldwork requirements of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), and is assigned to the OTA program as a full-time faculty member as defined by ACOTE.
The AFWC may be assigned other institutional duties that do not interfere with the management and administration of the fieldwork program.
Essential Functions In addition to the full-time faculty job requirements, the AFWC will be required: Consults with the Program Director of OTA in the development of procedures, policies and curriculum of the clinical education.
Identifies field placement sites for fieldwork placement for Level I & Level II.
Ensures regular scheduled instruction for students is provided during the clinical experience.
Counsels students on progress and deficiencies in their clinical education in conjunction with the clinical instructors.
Serves on the Program Advisory Committee.
Supervises field placement sites during student rotations.
Attends and participates in regularly scheduled meetings with the Program Director of Allegany College of Maryland.
Prepares clinical schedule and meets with students to discuss questions concerning fieldwork.
Provides clinical instructors with ongoing reports of student skills and abilities to provide for the most effective teaching.
Advises students and assist in selection of prospective students for upcoming class.
Provides ongoing planning and organizing of the daily student rotations to ensure equality on their clinical rotations.
Meets periodically with OTA instructors to assess student progress in the didactic related courses.
Stays abreast of developments in the field by attending seminars and by reading professional journals.
Assists in preparation of the Self-Study Report Completes any other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Teaches assigned courses in the OTA Program.
Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills The AFWC must hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree.
Required Qualifications: The AFWC must be an OTA/L, licensed in Maryland.
Must have a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as an occupational therapy assistant.
