Basic Statement of Responsibilities The Area Coordinator is a live-in staff person who manages the Willowbrook Woods office and is responsible for many of the day-to-day operations.
Being the only College Officials who live and work on-site, the position requires extended working hours’ availability and flexibility while maintaining personal boundaries as well as work-life balance.
The Area Coordinator provides stability to the living/learning community comprised of up to 228 [primarily] first- and second-year students.
The Staffing Model for Student Affairs has two Area Coordinators who share most of the responsibilities of the live-in, on-site position but who each will have designated tasks or specialties which can shift as the positions experience turnover and/or strengths change within Residence Life.
During any period when only one Area Coordinator is on staff, the designated tasks may be reduced and/or reassigned to other Student Affairs or College Officials or external partners.
When Residence Life is fully staffed, one or both of the Area Coordinators will be the primary contact for information, guidance, and navigating matters directly related to the College and to Willowbrook Woods for external groups that use Willowbrook Woods such as during the summer when residence halls are closed.
Essential Functions General Staff-in-residence to provide professional presence (includes combination of daytime, evening, nighttime, and weekend working hours).
Respond to resident issues and incidents as needed.
Serve as a resource to students and/or make referrals to campus resources.
Manage the day-to-day office in Willowbrook Woods.
Recruit, select, train, & supervise the Resident Assistants.
Manage petty cash use, documentation, replenishment.
Submit work orders for any facilities issues to common areas including Clubhouse, office space, courtyard, parking lots, building exteriors, etc.

Manage phone inquiries from prospective students/parents.
Participate in Campus Open Houses and other promotional activities including Willowbrook Woods tours/presentations.
Manage openings and break closings.
Conduct opening and closing inspections (pre- and post-Turnover).
Share in the rotation of Residence Life professional on-call coverage.
Serve as Code of Student Conduct Hearing Officer as assigned.
Collaborate with appropriate personnel to determine resident contract renewal eligibility.
Communicate relevant information to residents via meetings, email, in-person, or as otherwise appropriate.
Maintain accurate documentation, record-keeping, data collection.
Disseminate & collect documents to/from residents with RA and Security assistance.
Participate in staff meetings.
Assist service providers and/or vendors as needed or assigned with other ACM units holding primary responsibility for external vendors related to their unit function.
Specialized / Assigned between 2 Area Coordinators in accordance with particular skills/preferences: Perform roommate matching.
Perform roommate mediation.
Review and enforce resident credit hour compliance.
Provide or supervise Resident Assistants’ educational, recreational, and community programming.
Update publications, documents, and web page as needed.
Issue electronic newsletters/communications to all residents.
Manage residents’ keys including assigning, issuing, collecting, and replacing.
Makes purchases for Residence Life.
Organize regular van trips to local shopping for residents.
Perform regular health and safety inspections with RA assistance.
Conduct fire drills with RA and Security assistance.
Track fire alarms.
Complete damage billing and fee assessment resulting from room changes, check-outs, inspections, etc.
Manage applications and contracts as needed or assigned.
Assist liaison with summer conference / other external groups.
• Serve on college committees and task forces as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills Bachelors Degree; Minimum of one year of Residence Life experience (graduate or professional level) required.
Experience and/or training in Mental Health First Aid® or similar program is required – at application or within 60 days of hire.
Masters Degree in Student Affairs or related field preferred.

Ability to establish rapport with and offer patient guidance to widely diverse student population; Ability to learn and apply student development theory/application; Ability to respond to unexpected situations with a cool head and good judgment; Ability to function with a flexible schedule that requires frequent evening and weekend hours; Ability to balance unusual work schedule with personal needs.
