What You Will Do: The Coordinator of Sterile Processing Training coordinates with the educator and leadership team, to design, plan, evaluate, and integrate education and course objectives along with professional development activities so as to maintain consistent standards of practice and competencies for Sterile Processing.
The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that employees perform only the skills or services for which they have received instruction and have been found proficient by the trainer.
The Coordinator provides onsite supervision in the clinical areas and are responsible and accountable for the assignment of tasks based on their assessment of the technician’s knowledge and skill and shall intervene if necessary.
The Coordinator may not further delegate the duties of the preceptorship.
Responsibilities and Duties: Serves as a role model, resource person, and supervisor of technician experiences.
Demonstrate professionalism in the technical, intellectual, and interpersonal skills required to optimize technician learning.
Work closely with the trainee or staff member and educator to meet the individualized learning objectives of the trainee or staff member.
Share knowledge and encourage decision-making and problem solving by providing the trainee with feedback on his/her progress based on observation of performance, assessment of achievement of competencies, and documentation.
Provide feedback to manager, educator and assigned lead regarding trainee or staff member defined objectives, performance, or failure to uphold or meet required standards.
Participate in preceptor orientation facilitated by Surgical Service Educator.
Responsible for coordinating training at multiple VH facilities on a variety of different shifts to meet the needs of the trainee or staff member.
During downtime between training assignments, accepts assignments from the team leader as needed.
Works with SPD Leadership and Educator to develop and implement yearly goals, objectives and annual competencies.
This role requires travel between the VH departments and a flexible schedule to be able to accommodate various shifts to assist with training of all staff.
What You Will Bring: Education High school graduate or equivalent required.
Experience Minimum of (5) years of experience in Sterile Processing environment required Certification & Licensures Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) required BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required within 6 months of hire Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) required within 6 months of hire Qualifications Basic management and organizational development and training techniques required.
Comprehensive knowledge of theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies required.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles/application of sterilization of surgical instrumentation, equipment, surgical supplies, and case cart systems required.
Thorough understanding of principles of sterile processing, including decontamination, packing, sterilization, storage and controls, indicators, and documentation required.
Regulatory and professional standards in the area of the operating room and sterile processing required.
Principles and techniques of curriculum development required.
Ability to conduct training and develop sessions, perform the role of facilitator, and effectively utilize group dynamic skills and techniques required.
Demonstrated active listening skills, communicate ideas and information effectively both orally and in writing required.
Ability to speak and answer questions effectively before large and small groups required.
Ability to conduct training programs as developed by vendors or others, including written instructional tools, graphic displays, and other presentation aids required.
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work required.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing required.
Strong computer skills required including a working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel required.
Experience with an instrument tracking system preferred.
Self-starter and ability to work independently when required.
Ability to set priorities, be flexible, multi-task, and meet deadlines required.
Demonstrated understanding of LEAN methodology required.
