The Sheriff's Department is hiring Full-time and a Part-time Deputy Sheriff's.
The positions are union positions.
The Full-time position has benefits; the Part-time position does not.

Classes are Monday through Friday for 19 weeks and lodging and food are provided.
You are paid while in the academy.
You will be required to pass a physical fitness test upon entry into the state sheriff academy.
You will be tested monthly prior to entering the academy.
Once we receive your resume you will be sent an application and the physical testing standards for your sex and age.

Job Summary: *Deputy Sheriff Duties* 1.
Receives and dockets writs, executions, summons, court notices and subpoenas, and other legal documents.
2.
Enforces criminal/vehicle code statutes of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
3.
Serves and enforces all writs and orders of the court, including: \*Protection from Abuse Orders (including weapons seizures) \*Misdemeanor and Felony Bench Warrants, Etc.
4.
Prevents crime by patrolling, monitoring, and the reporting of persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity.
5.
Mediates disputes between neighbors, in domestic situations, and in the business community.
6.
Seizes contraband, drugs, and weapons; preserves evidence until the case is disposed of in a court of law; and interviews informants and suspects.
7.
Collects and documents evidence.
8.
Preserves crime scenes, takes photographs, prepares crime scene sketches, and conducts interviews with victims and witnesses.
9.
Locates defendants who have moved or are attempting to evade service by questioning neighbors, managers of apartment buildings, store owners, district police, and others.
10.
Makes levies on personal property against which a judgment has been obtained.
11.
Testifies in criminal and traffic court hearings.
12.
Works cooperatively and assists other agencies (federal, state, county, city, borough, and township law enforcement agencies) 13.
Acts tactfully, courteously, honestly and with good judgment, especially when under stress.
14.
Exchanges information with dispatchers, attorneys, court personnel, medical examiners, fire/EMT personnel, medical professionals, and other departments.
15.
Serves as a department representative in community events, media interactions, and public functions; assists with community activities, programs and crime prevention.
16.
Processes and types reports in a timely fashion and in a professional format, including using appropriate grammar, symbols, and mathematical computations 17.
Completes and prepares a variety of forms, logs, requests, records, reports, correspondence, and various other documents associated with daily responsibilities; maintains administrative records and files.

Demonstrates proficiency in JNET, and the use of all emerging technology.
19.
Performs various administrative tasks which may include, typing, photocopying, faxing, shredding, and/or filing documents, receiving, stamping, distributing mail/documents, maintaining office equipment, and computer data entry/retrieval.

Takes photographs and fingerprints using Livescan, when necessary.
21.
Complies with all departmental and county policies and procedures.
22.
Follows written and oral instructions.

Applies reasoning and problem-solving skills when confronted with circumstances where no specific rule or procedure has been established and, therefore, requires discretionary decision-making.

Safely operates law enforcement vehicles both day and night, including prisoner transport, emergency situations, and general duties.

Appropriately relays information to and requests resources from emergency services dispatchers.
42.
Maintains cleanliness of vehicle; refuels, checks fluids and tires, and requests service and/or repairs as needed; maintains equipment in functional and presentable condition.
43.
Follows all safety regulations when processing/handling evidence or in other field situations.
44.
Responds to critical incidents, such as, public unrest, riots, natural disasters, etc.
45.
Uses verbal de-escalation skills to prevent the escalation of conflict in a potentially violent crisis situation.

Provide security for court proceedings ensuring a safe environment for the judges, court personnel, prisoners, and all others.
Ensures the safety, physical security, and orderly conduct of all individuals in and around the Courthouse.
Assists with courthouse security; enforces all the rules and regulations of the courtroom and/or jail; escorts inmates to various parts of the jail or court facility.

Conducts prisoner transports and extraditions to and from correctional facilities, detention centers, medical facilities, police departments, and all other associated places of business.
May travel interstate or intrastate.

Escorts and controls/restrains prisoners with handcuffs, shackles, and associated equipment.

Performs screening device monitor duties and secures personal property, when needed.
51.
Search prisoners and their property and perform inspections of courtrooms and holding areas.
Search defendants/prisoners for weapons, drugs, or other contraband.
Qualifications: > Applicants must have a high school diploma, or a GED; > Pass the Sheriff Education Training program within the first 12 months of employment; 19 week program > Be at least 21 years of age; > Pass Criminal History Background Check; > Possess a valid drivers license; Prior Sheriff, Police, Military, Security and Corrections experience preferred.
