13 USD UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a casual Associate Chaplain to support our Pastoral Care department! If catering to the spiritual needs of our patients and their families is something you are passionate about, make sure to apply today! This is a casual position, and will work primarily evening/night shifts.
The Associate Chaplain: serves as a full member of the pastoral/spiritual care team and provides for the spiritual needs of the patients/families and staff as designated by the director and in keeping with their own competencies and professional education.
is distinct from the role of the chaplain in that the chaplain’s CPE training and certification by a recognized accrediting agency enables him/her to minister in a far more in-depth way than the associate’s training allows.
Responsibilities: Supports the Hospital chaplain’s ministry of spiritual care to patients by completing visitation assignments and communicating the services available through the pastoral care department, screening patients’, families’, and staff’s needs, and communicating with chaplains if a patient/family/staff wish to meet with the chaplains.
Participates in call rotation.
Collaborates in planning various liturgical programs with the Director of Pastoral Care and chaplains.
Participates in Interdisciplinary Plan of Care conferences.
Coordinates contacting patients’ clergy if requested.
Charts visits to patients.
Completes annual goals and objectives with the director, meeting with director on regular basis to discuss progress on goals and objectives.
Meets continuing education requirements as outlined by the department.
Assists the director and chaplains with various administrative tasks.
Wears identification badge in accordance with Hospital policy.
Qualifications: Professional certification or eligibility as Chaplain from a national certifying organization required (e.
g.
, The College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy, the Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Jewish Chaplains).
Ordination or Commission to function in a ministry of pastoral care and endorsement by his/her denomination authority required.
Completion of a minimum of 1 unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) preferred.
Candidate must have a 1-unit CPE within one year of hire date.
A minimum of 1 year of hospital/healthcare-related experience preferred.
Personal and Professional Requirements Endorsement from a recognized ecclesial body (church).
Good people/communication skills.
Good physical and emotional health.
Ability and stamina to minister to patients with various physical and emotional disabilities.
Flexibility regarding work hours.
Ability and desire to work with professional clergy of varying faith backgrounds.
Ability and desire to work within the context of team approach to ministry.
