Performs routine and advanced Respiratory Care procedures according to established standards in the ABG Lab, Critical Care Units, Emergency Department, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department, Pulmonary Function Laboratory, and General Patient Care areas of Potomac Valley Hospital.
Adheres to the established performance expectations for PVH/WVUH employees in the areas of People, Service, Performance Improvement, and Shared Values and Culture.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1.
Licensed by the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care as a LRTC 2.
Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) 3.
Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree from an academic institution in the field of Respiratory Care.
4.
Valid Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1.
Certified pulmonary function technologist (CPFT) by National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) preferred.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.

1.
Performs basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients by order of the physician.
2.
Performs emergency and acute Respiratory Care procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
3.
Assembles, checks, and corrects malfunctions and performs quality controls on Respiratory Care equipment.
4.
Initiates, maintains, and discontinues mechanical ventilation for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
5.
Performs and analyzes arterial blood gas samples adhering to standards of accrediting agencies (CLIA, Joint Commission).
6.
Performs diagnostic procedures including bronchoscopies, pulse oximetry, PFT’s, etc.
7.
Communicates appropriately and effectively with other members of the healthcare team regarding all aspects of patient care.
8.
Provides assistance with patient and family/caregiver education along with other members of the healthcare team.
9.
Actively participates in departmental quality assurance and hospital-wide organizational performance improvement activities.
10.
Maintains clinical and professional competency based upon established standards of practice.
11.
Maintains knowledge of current practices of Potomac Valley Hospital through annual review of all pertinent policy and procedure manuals (i.
e.
, Administrative manual, Infection Control, Safety, Departmental), review of newsletters and other relevant publications, and attendance at departmental meetings.
12.
Demonstrates the ability to perform all relevant departmental competencies.
13.
Performs basic and advanced diagnostic procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients by order of the Physician.
14.
Pulmonary Function Laboratory: Performs Pulmonary procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Assembles, checks, and corrects malfunctions and performs quality controls on Pulmonary/Respiratory Care Equipment.
