*ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN I*
*ALLEGANY COUNTY TAX AND UTILITY OFFICE*
*SUMMARY*
This is specialized clerical work in the fiscal area, at the experienced level.
An employee in this class, with general supervision from a designated supervisor, prepares and processes documents in the billing and collection of taxes and water/sewer accounts.
Assists the general public with tax related information.
*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES*
Working knowledge of preparation of bank deposits, proofing, posting to various accounts, of business mathematics and bookkeeping methods, and of oral and written communication to include business English, grammar and spelling.
Introductory knowledge of computerized spreadsheets, word processing and associated programs.
Proven proficiency in clerical and computer skills.
Requires initiative, judgment and knowledge of office practices, policies and organization.
*QUALIFICATIONS*
High School diploma or equivalent, to include or be supplemented by courses in bookkeeping or accounting, office practices and typing.
Two years of office experience, at least one of which must have been in an accounting or financial environment.
(A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

*SALARY AND BENEFITS*
This position is classified at Grade 103, with a salary range of $36,777 - $69,875 and a complete County benefits package including health and life insurance, paid leave, and pension.
