The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset, is actively recruiting for a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher with a focus on Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Trades.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for the instruction and training of inmate students in the vocational area of air conditioning and refrigeration, and other closely related job skills.
Instruction will include both theory and hands-on instruction.
In this position, you will independently determine appropriate teaching methods to curriculum established by the Bureau of Correction Education.
You will also determine appropriate classroom procedures and processes in accordance with Department of Corrections policies.
In addition, you will provide input to departmental procedures, policies, and curriculum for consideration by higher-level administrators.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 37.
5-hours per week.
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,919.
00 (before taxes).
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or Eligibility for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.
Condition of Employment: Employees who are teaching school age youth must maintain the minimum teaching certification for the specified parenthetical as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education's current regulations.
