Educational Assistant (Sheppard Pratt School - Cumberland)

The Sheppard Pratt School - Cumberland is a year round program that provides special education and other mental health services to children and adolescents (ages 5-21) with autism, intense behavioral challenges and delayed academic progress.
Our program focuses on academic, communication, social and vocational skills.
The Sheppard Pratt School-Cumberland is a partnership amongst the Allegany County Board of Education, the Maryland Mental Hygiene Administration and The Sheppard Pratt School-Cumberland.
Responsibilities: Work in the Autism and/or ED program in a 1:1 or general classroom support role, depending on the needs of the program Provide overall assistance in the classroom to support the teacher in achieving the goals and objectives of the students' Individual Education Plan (IEP) Work independently within the guidelines and direction of the supervising teacher providing educational support and behavior management Document student progress Serve as an escort to students during school or program activities Individuals with a bachelor's degree may be responsible for leading classroom activities in the absence of the supervising teacher Requirements: High School Diploma required Must be over 21 years of age.
Bachelor's degree and experience working in special education and/or with individuals with autism/severe behavioral and academic issues strongly preferred.
Work requires physical preparedness to effectively manage aggressive students.
