Classification Faculty-Adjunct Position Term Basic Statement of Responsibilities
To provide dental hygiene coverage during the operation of the dental clinic.
Qualifications Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills
Required to hold a dental hygiene license to practice in the State of Maryland.
Must be CPR certified.
Recognition to administer Local Anesthesia is required or will be obtained immediately upon hire.
Organizational Relationships Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
1.
Reviews medical history forms of patients in the clinic.
If a medical history is questionable, the part-time clinical lab hygienist will consult with the clinic dentist who will determine if the patient should receive care in the dental hygiene clinic.
2.
Reviews and evaluates x-rays taken of patients in the clinic.
3.
Reviews and evaluates students with patients by observing and instructing students
in regard to history taking, scaling, polishing, charting, and probing as well as all clinical services provided by the clinic.
4.
Answers all questions of instructors and students in regard to patient problems in the
clinic.
5.
Executes emergency care procedures, when necessary.
6.
Serves as a consultant to students and faculty in the clinic.
7.
Makes comments and suggestions to the Program Director and the Clinical Coordinator concerning procedures.
8.
Utilizes standardized grading methods and clinic evaluation procedures.
9.
Enhances the attitude and professionalism of the student by wearing appropriate
attire and following proper clinical protocol as outlined in the Dental Hygiene Policies Handbook.
10.
Attends department staff meetings when requested.
11.
Assists with maintenance of the Dental Hygiene clinic and equipment.
12.
Assists clinical coordinator with grade calculation for clinical courses.
Secondary Responsibilites
Referral of Patients
1.
Patients of record who need follow-up care will be referred to the patient’s
dentist of record.
Solicitation of patients who have documented dentists of record will be construed as unprofessional and grounds for dismissal.
2.
In the event the clinic patient of record does not have a documented dentist of record, the patient will be advised to check the telephone directory.
3.
Direct solicitation of patients for part-time clinic staff will not be allowed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Applicants will be required
to complete some training on teaching and/or educational methodology.
