Protects passengers basic rights to be treated with courtesy, respect and full recognition of human dignity and individuality and to be free from harm.
Assists the passengers on/off bus, personally accompanying when necessary.
This may include the use of bus lifts and wheelchair manipulation.
May also include assisting consumer to their door.
Assists passengers to/from their home and ensures someone is home to receive them.
If not, observes from a place where he/she can witness that an entrance was left open (when family members have authorized that this person may be left to enter alone).
In that case, Bus Aide must personally witness that person entered their house successfully.
Always ensures that someone is home to receive person.
If in doubt, personally visits the residence to see if anyone is home.
If no one is home, radios office for instructions and if no one is in the office, refers to emergency cards.
Acts at all times with regard for the physical and mental well-being of our passengers.
Ensures all passengers are secured in their seatbelts.
Prevents illegal restraints and interventions and promotes the development of safe and appropriate behavioral supports.
Assures that anyone failing to adhere to the above protections governing the basic rights of consumers is reported in a written Incident Report as required, as per agency and DDA guidelines.
Assists with/maintains cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the vehicle at all times and informs supervisor when cleaning vehicles.
Maintains a daily attendance record.
Obtains proper coverage as needed to ensure transportation duties are fulfilled including notification to the Operations Manager in advance.
If needed, Bus Aide will provide additional assistance to any substitute driver including providing directions to destinations.
Maintains punctuality in running the established route without change, unless notified and approved by the Operations Manager.
If the bus driver is not here within 10 minutes of normal departure time, aide should first call the bus driver and then call Transportation Supervisor.
Refuses to transport any person who is not authorized to ride his/her bus unless told to do so by the Operations Manager.
Attends any agency and/or DDA mandated in-services/trainings and meetings as designated by the Operations Manager.
Assists the driver as requested, in the case of an accident or breakdown and ensures that passengers are never left unattended/alone.
Handles any medical emergencies until proper medical care can be obtained.
Either the bus driver or aide must remain with the bus at all times while clients are aboard.
Assists driver, when needed, to navigate in a backward motion by getting out of the bus and guiding the driver, ensuring that no pedestrian traffic is in close proximity to the bus.
Assists the driver with updating Route Directions anytime there is a change and give to Transportation Supervisor.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Experience in field of developmental disabilities preferred, but not required.
Be over 18 years of age.
Must maintain CPR/1st Aid certifications.
Must complete all other required trainings.
